Daily Skin Care Regimen & How to Properly Wash Your Face
Maintaining a proper daily Skin Care Regimen
is important for keeping your skin clear, free of impurities and oil, and moisturized so it remains healthy, clear, and radiant. Your basic skin care regimen should include cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. Additional Sunscreen in the morning is critical!
Face washing is the core of daily skin care regimen. You should wash your skin with a gentle cleanser at least twice a day (upon awakening and before going to bed) to remove oil, dead skin cells, & dry skin – substances that can clog the pores. It is important for the pores to remain bacteria free.
The presence of bacteria is something which contributes to the growth of pimples. If you have overall skin cleanliness , you can lessen the chance of developing acne & pimples. Here are the proper daily skin care tips that I recommend:
In the evening before bed, remove all traces of make-up & cosmetics. Be very gentle with your skin! I use a clean washcloth, moistened with water and a dab of cleanser. People often recommend a moistened cotton ball, but in my efforts to reduce waste, i prefer a cotton wash cloth. Gently apply the cleanser in upward (anti-gravity!!!) motions. REMEMBER to cleanse your throat.
Use lukewarm water. Avoid using water that is too cold or too hot, as that can dry your skin. This will also open the pores for deeper cleansing. If you are washing in the shower, you may want to consider replacing the shower head with a filtered shower head. Too much exposure to chemicals can hurt skin as well as hair. You might consider a Whole House Filter so that your vanity water is chemical free as well.
Treated water can kill bacteria and other organisms, but it usually does this with a chlorine compound. This kills bacteria, but can be harmful to your hair and skin. Chlorine causes dry, itching, flaking sking, dry hair & hair loss, rashes, & premature aging. Filters help remove chlorine, lead, iron, and other harmful contaminants.
Avoid strong or harsh soaps & cleansers, for they can dry your skin and strip off natural lipids. Your skin has a natural ACID MANTLE that is the first line of defense against intruders into your body; alkaline soaps will destroy this acid mantle, and it can take up to 6 hours to restore the natural protection.
If you have acne-prone skin, look for cleansing products that contain salicylic acid. Salicylic Acid is a naturally occurring organic acid and a gentle, effective exfoliator. It is very effective for acne
and oily skin and helps to unclog pores by removing dead skin cells, loosen and remove blackheads and whiteheads, and prevent future outbreaks.
Note that Salicylic Acid also makes skin sensitive to the sun. Sunscreen should be used EVERY MORNING no matter what!! It protects your skin from harmful UV rays and helps slow down aging of the skin.
Rinse face well to remove all residue of soap or cleanser to avoid clogged pores.
NEVER rub your skin dry with a towel. PAT GENTLY - The only skin you'll ever have needs TLC!
Use a toner on your face after cleansing. This removes traces of make-up, dirt, oil, & dead skin cells that you may have missed during cleansing. Toning your skin closes the pores to prevent dust and air borne particles from settling there. It should make your face feel smooth and refreshed. Toners can reduce the pore size, and help avoid ingrown hairs.
A good moisturizer will replenish the natural oils that have disappeared from cleaning and toning. Moisturizing is absolutely necessary! A lighter moisturizer can be used in the day (under the sunscreen), and a targeted Night Cream before bed.
Need to help eliminate fine lines, and tighten the skin? The VERY Special Super Firming Serum helps your skin feel younger in just a few minutes!!! No need for Botox!!!
One of my most favorites -- Amazing Moisturizing Serum; not only deeply moisturizes the skin, but calms skin irritations as well! BONUS -- mix with vitamins C&E
and you have a super special ''magic tonic'' that can be applied before the moisturizer for extra repair and anti aging, a MOST important part of a daily skin care regimen! I use this ''magic tonic'' both morning and evening.
Use a sunblock throughout the day (ideally SPF30) to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Long term exposure to UV radiation may result in harmful effects such as sunburn, skin cancer, and acceleration of skin aging process --- an essential for your skin care regimen.
Every time you shower, using a special Exfoliant
will help remove even more dead skin cells. The warm water of the shower opens the pores, softens the dead skin cells, making an ideal environment for exfoliating.
Once a week you can use a Masque
that, within just days, can give skin an amazing young, firm quality!
REMEMBER YOUR LIPS!!!
I am very careful to have a tube of Lip Protection
in my pocket at all times, especially when I am out horseback riding, gardening, hiking, or just enjoying the Great Outdoors! I wear my big sunhat, but even reflected sunshine can get those UV rays attacking the lips and face. I also apply a good layer of lip protection right before crawling into bed!
If you'd have some special daily skin care regimens that I may have missed, please share with me!!
